Marshall University Alumni Legacy Tuition Reduction Program

Frequently Asked Questions

Application Below

Through the Alumni Legacy Tuition Reduction Program, Marshall University offers a substantial undergraduate tuition reduction to eligible, non-resident children and grandchildren of Marshall University alumni. An eligible student is defined as a student who is a child, step-child, grandchild or step-grandchild of a Marshall University graduate (i.e., received an earned associate, baccalaureate, graduate or professional degree from Marshall University) and who would not normally be eligible for resident tuition rates. The eligible student must enter college for the first-time during the Fall 2006 semester or later. The qualifying parent or grandparent must have an active membership in the Marshall University Alumni Association.

To be eligible for this tuition reduction program, students must be full-time undergraduate students on the Huntington campus. Renewal of this award is automatic each year contingent upon the student’s full-time enrollment on the Huntington campus, continued good academic standing and satisfactory academic progress, and the qualifying parent’s or grandparent’s active membership in the Alumni Association. A graduate is an active member if they have made a gift of their choice to The Marshall University Foundation Inc.

Note: Exact amounts are set each year after tuition has been approved.

Tier 1

Students applying with a minimum 25 ACT composite score (or SAT equivalent) and a 3.5 high school grade-point average will receive a tuition reduction, which lowers the base tuition and fees cost down for a non-resident student to approximately $4,360 per year for 2007-08. The exact amount is based on the approved resident and non-resident tuition and fees set each year by the Marshall University Board of Governors. Note: The amount refers only to tuition. Students are responsible for board, books. etc.

Tier 2

Students applying with a minimum 23 ACT composite score (or SAT equivalent) and a 3.0 high school grade-point average will receive a tuition reduction, which lowers the base tuition and fees cost down for a non-resident student to approximately $5,918 per year for 2007-08. The exact amount is based on the approved resident and non-resident tuition and fees set each year by the Marshall University Board of Governors. Note: The amount refers only to tuition. Students are responsible for board, books. etc.

Students with composite ACT scores of 21 or 22 may also be eligible. The application provides space for description of leadership and service experiences during the high school career. Service will be evaluated and may be worth either 1 or 2 points added to the ACT score for qualification for a Tier 2 tuition reduction. Leadership and service points cannot be used to qualify a student for a Tier 1 reduction.
