Traffic Safety Management

Nature of the Course:

 

Rmanagement program at the national, state and local levels, including administration and management, educational, vehicle registration and driver licensing aspects of the program.

 

Objectives:

 

            As a result of this course the students are expected to be able to:

 

1.  Explain the makeup and organizational structures of various traffic safety      services

 

            2.  Itemize key landmarks in the evolution of traffic safety services.

 

            3.  List the steps necessary to register various vehicles in the state.

 

4.  Explain various techniques which can be applied to solve various management           problems.

 

5.  Explain the process of federal funding for traffic safety programs.

 

 

Methods:

 

            Seminar – Discussion classroom sessions

 

 

 

 

Requirements:

 

1.  Each student is to read and summarize a minimum of 15 professional articles in the management/administrative field.  Preferably the article should relate to safety management/administration, however, if they do not, then relate the article theme to safety.  (20%)  Develop a web address listing from these readings.

 

2.  Formal response to assigned questions  (20%)

 

3.  Student is to develop a model fleet program of students choosing.  Student will develop all aspects of program:  (60%)

 

            a.  What state/federal permits would be required to start such a program?

            b.  What would be the employment requirements?  Workers compensation?

            c.  What equipment needs would be required?

            d.  Develop a budget for operations/maintenance of equipment.

            e.  Other aspects.
