CHOOSING A NEW CAREER

CAREER ADVISING

Career Services advisors are available to alumni for assistance with major decisions including deciding whether to attend graduate school or finding an appropriate internship or job.advising

Contact a Career Services advisor to:

  • Identify strengths and weaknesses and how they apply to different majors
  • Evaluate career opportunities based on educational majors
  • Assess career choices based on national trends and forecasts
  • Plan major, choose electives and explore additional activities that pursue career goals
  • Learn about potential cooperative learning and internship possibilities
  • Explore possibilities of attending a graduate or professional school
  • Develop professional resumes and cover letters for prospective employers

CAREER ASSESSMENT

For alumni unsure of their future career paths, career assessments may assist in answering questions and determining potential future occupations. Alumni may also take career inventories to locate suitable work environments and industries based on temperaments, values, interests and skills. Available Assessments: assessment

  • SDS (Self Directed Search): A 30-minute assessment that suggests specific occupations based on the assessment results
  • SIGI3: This assessment assists in suggesting suitable career possibilities by measuring and evaluating values, interests, and activities. This is a computerized, self-guided program and can be accessed online any time and is free to Marshall students and alumni.

WORKSHOPS

workshopMarshall University Career Services Center hosts career development workshops at various times throughout the year. Topics include resume building and critique, proper business etiquette and interviewing techniques. You may also sign-up for e-mail reminders of Career Services events on MARSHALL JobTrax.
