DEADLINE FEBRUARY 22, 2008!!
The purpose of this award is to recognize distinction in the fields of artistic and scholarly activity on the part of Marshall University faculty. Three individual and one team award will be given.
A. THREE awards for individual faculty members shall be given yearly at the Spring General Faculty meeting.
ONE senior recipient shall be selected from among those faculty in the sciences and technology (including Science, Medicine, College of Information Technology and Engineering, and Nursing and the Health Professions) holding the ranks of Associate, or Full Professor;
ONE senior recipient shall be selected from among those faculty in the arts, social sciences, humanities, education and business holding the ranks of Associate, or Full Professor; and
ONE junior recipient shall be selected from among ALL FACULTY holding the rank of Assistant Professor.
B. ONE team award can be given each year. The award shall be given only when a candidate team's application is judged to be of significant merit. A team shall constitute of at least two faculty who hold tenured or tenure-track appointments at Marshall University and who have worked together on the same activity. Faculty may only be considered for one award (individual or team) for a body of work.
To be eligible for consideration for the above awards a faculty member either must be tenured or hold a tenure-track appointment. A significant portion of the artistic and/or scholarly work shall have been completed while at Marshall University.
I. General Guidelines: All applications and nominations must be written, dated, and submitted both in hard copy and electronically directly to the Office of the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, Attention: MU-DASA. All materials submitted shall be kept on file for consideration for a maximum of two years from their date of origination. A completed application/nomination must include the following:

A committee consisting of a chair, appointed by the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, and one representative from each of the University's eligible academic units (currently: Community & Technical College, Education, Fine Arts, College of Information Technology and Engineering, Health Sciences, Lewis College of Business, Liberal Arts, Medicine, the School of Journalism and Mass Communications, and Science) shall be convened in a timely fashion to review all submissions. II. Specific Criteria: The following criteria will be applied in the selection of an award recipient:

1. The criteria will be weighed in accordance with the professional standards in the particular field.
2. During the course of its deliberations the committee may elect to consult with recognized experts in the applicant/nominee's field.
3. While teaching as a criterion will not be considered for this award, the percentage of time that the applicant/nominee spends teaching may be a relevant factor, because time left for artistic/research activity may be affected.
4. While the committee will strive to adhere to its stated standards, it may have to consider other factors and exceptions as particular cases arise.
5. The best candidate selected by the committee must meet minimum
standards to become the award recipient. Minimum standards are defined
as follows: the submission must constitute a significant body of artistic,
scholarly or creative work with a recognized impact, in a specific discipline,
at a national level.

The amount of the MU-DASA awards will be $2000 for senior faculty recipients and $1000 for the junior faculty recipient. The team award will be $2000.
