Submit Financial Documentation

You must submit Proof of Financial Support (if you need to obtain an F-1 visa or 1-20 Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status). You must show that you or your sponsor has finances to support your study and living costs for one year. Financial information resources that we encourage international students to review.

Expenses for an academic year of study at Marshall include the estimated average cost of tuition and fees, living expenses such as room and board if living on campus and rent, utilities, and groceries if living off campus, and miscellaneous expenses, such as international student health insurance, books, college fees, and an estimated cost of living during breaks. Please note: International student health insurance is a requirement for all international students at Marshall University.

Proof of financial support may be demonstrated in several ways:

An affidavit of financial support from a personal sponsor (parent, relative, friend) that has been certified by a bank or financial institution. Download the Affidavit of Financial Support here.
A scholarship agency (government, corporation, etc.) states the availability of funds and the intention to support your educational and living expenses for the entire duration of study at Marshall University.
Personal funds, provided you submit documentary evidence of a bank statement from a bank or financial institution or its affiliate in U.S. dollars (USD). A statement from your employer certifying that you have been granted study leave and salary support arrangements may also be acceptable.

Submit Your Enrollment Deposit

If you are admitted to Marshall University and you decide to attend, you must submit a $500 enrollment deposit. This enrollment deposit is required before you can reserve housing or register for your classes. Please know that the enrollment deposit is fully refundable until May 1 if it’s paid for a fall term and until December 1 if paid for a spring term.

Once your enrollment deposit, proof of financial support, and passport are received, the Office of International Student Services will issue the I-20 and provide instructions on how to arrange and pay for shipping. Form I-20 is used to apply for a student visa (F-1) at an American embassy or consulate.

Housing

After you submit your $500 enrollment deposit, you can sign up for on-campus housing. You can choose from residence halls designed for first-year students, with multiple dining options throughout campus, or opt for one of our Living-Learning Communities to live with other freshman students who have similar interests.
Marshall University has a two-year residency requirement for all freshmen and sophomores, so signing up for housing is a required step.
Local students who will be living at home with their parents and commuting to campus must fill out an authorization to commute request.
