Now just a month from the
film's premiere, those who want to get even more insight
into "We Are Marshall" may want to hop online.
America Online's Moviefone
site is hosting a new behind-the-scenes mini-documentary
about the film, which tells the story of a rebuilding
year after a 1970 plane crash killed much of that year's
Thundering Herd football team and several community
members.
In the more than
five-minute clip, the story of the film is explained by
Matthew McConaughey and Anthony Mackie who play coach
Jack Lengyel and player Nate Ruffin respectively.
McConaughey talks about
Marshall's story being a great one that almost fell
through the cracks.
"Luckily, it didn't," the
actor says in the video.
The sneak peek also
features director McG talking about why he wanted to do
a very different piece from the "Charlie's Angels" films
he had done in the past.
"I've always been a sports
fan, and I was looking for a very dramatic piece, and I
was from that part of the country, so I connected with
the script immediately," McG says.
There are also interviews
with screenwriter Jamie Lindon and actor David
Straitharn, all culminating with clips from the trailer
and McConaughey ruminating on the long-term effects of
the crash.
"There's light at the end
of the tunnel in this one, and there has been in real
life for the people of Huntington and the whole
university for some time now," McConaughey says.
