Reunion planned for "Cam's Boys"
 |
| Cam Henderson |
A reunion of the men who played
basketball for Coach Cam Henderson at Marshall is scheduled for the
weekend of February 16-19, 2007. All who played in the seasons from
1935-36 to 1954-55 are invited. Also invited is any family-member of
any deceased player who wishes to represent that player during the
weekend.
The M Club, the association of former
Marshall student-athletes, has agreed to sponsor the event in
concert with a committee of former players made up, at this time, of
Herb Morris and Ray Frazier. Helping in the planning of the reunion
is the M Club President George Lambros, who is also a former player
of Coach Henderson.
The weekend begins with a 6 p.m.
Friday reception in the Hartley Room, which is located just off the
basketball court in the Henderson Center on the Marshall
campus. This informal affair will have a few invited guests, but is
primary for the purpose of providing the opportunity to meet with
old friends and others who shared the special experience of playing
basketball for Coach Cam Henderson. Refreshments and drinks will be
served.
On Saturday there will be a luncheon
at the Hall of Fame Café at 1 p.m. That restaurant, located on Ninth
Street and Third Avenue in downtown Huntington, is chocked full of
Marshall memorabilia, the walls are covered with murals of former
Marshall stars and contains many reminders of past glories. The
luncheon will be Dutch treat.
At 5:30 p.m. Saturday, participants
will be the guests at a pre-game reception in the Hartley Room where
old and new friends, including current Marshall coach, Ron Jirsa,
and a number of other dignitaries, will be get together. Light
refreshments will be served.
At 7 p.m Saturday, the Marshall
Thundering Herd will play Tulane University and everyone will sit
together as the special guests of the university. During a break in
the game, all will go on to the floor of the Henderson Center and be
introduced to the fans. It is well understood in Huntington that the
foundation of a successful basketball program at Marshall was laid
by Cam Henderson and his players. A very special response is
anticipated.
The above events are the planned
affairs. The M Club is available to help with anyone who has other
events in mind.

Locating more than 130 people who
played at Marshall from 51 to 70 years ago is a daunting
challenge. Any help you can provide in locating additional players
or their families and making any corrections to our list, would be
appreciated. Contact the M Club for a list of players.
