All
together now, a big sigh of relief. April 15th is now behind us.
A friend of mine always says, "If you are paying taxes, that is
a good thing because it means you have made money." Somehow,
that just doesn't sound right to me. In any event, we can now
say it is over until next year.
While it is
all fresh in your mind, though, I would like to suggest a little
planning for next year that you can start now. How about a gift
to the Marshall University Foundation Inc.? My favorite
designation is the Erickson Alumni Center.
Another
suggestion. The Black Alumni Association announced a pledge of
$100,000 to the EAC which will allow them to name the Alumni
Lounge in honor of Nate Ruffin. What a wonderful recognition for
Nate. You can help them reach their goal and support the EAC at
the same time.
One more...
Dr. Sarah Denman retires next month as provost, and this past
weekend a scholarship fund was announced in her honor. Whatever
your preference, you know a gift to the Marshall University
Foundation will go a long way in support not only of the
university, but the students - present and future.
If you make a
gift, be sure to designate where you wish the gift to go.
I am sure
there have been several big sighs of relief coming from the EAC
this week. Our Alumni Relations staff is coming off of Alumni
Weekend. It was a great weekend - even the weather held off. I
want to publicly thank the staff for all of their hard work -
Tish Littlehales, Nancy Pelphrey, Jenny Drastura and Jon Sutton,
who recently joined the staff. If you were there for the events,
I hope you had a wonderful time. I know I did. I love Alumni
Weekend. It is definitely a highlight for me as MUAA president.
I enjoy meeting so many new people but also welcoming back
friends. My circle of Marshall friends continues to grow. I look
forward to any comments you may have about the weekend - good,
bad -

Today, as I
write this, it is supposed to get to 80 degrees here in
Philadelphia. I think spring has finally arrived. With spring
comes baseball and golf, two favorite pastimes that fit right
into our club activities. Please check out our
Club Events Calendar. If you are looking for a baseball game
- May 17 at Camden Yards or May 31 at the Great American
Ballpark. Golf events include May 31 in Boone County; June 1 in
Cincinnati; June 23 at the Greenbrier.
The Third
Annual Crab Fest on the Eastern Shore is June 14. These are just
a few events that are happening with our clubs. This is a great
time of year to pull out the short-sleeve Marshall shirt and
show off some Herd pride. I look forward to seeing many of you
at these events. Please find me to say "hi."
Always wearing the green…
