We had our first snow fall last
week. The holiday music is in full swing. I want to take this
time to wish everyone a very happy holiday season. I hope you
have the opportunity to take a break from all the hustle and
bustle that has become this season to relax and enjoy the beauty
of the season. The snowfall last week, although little more than
an inch, was really beautiful and in the peace that tends to
come with that first snowfall, it was a reminder to stop and
just enjoy what is good in this season. May the New Year bring
you peace and happiness into 2008.
I hope as you
make out that list for Santa that you include some Marshall
Green. I have several items on my list. All of my friends and
family know how to contact the
University Bookstore
or Stadium Bookstore. For those of you
who do not live in town, it is easy to add that Marshall item to
your list. And for the great gift giving, there is always the
movie, We Are Marshall. Several of my friends have put
the movie on their wish lists. Do you think I talk about the
movie…?
I know I have
talked before what it means to us to be Marshall grads. That
sense of pride and being part of something special. I have
talked to so many of you as I have traveled to events. But to
experience it means so much more. I was at the Central Florida
game last month and attended the tailgate. My brother, who lives
in Florida, went to the event and game with me. He is a Pitt
grad. He hadn’t been to a football game since leaving Pitt 20
years ago. First of all, he could not believe the number of
Marshall fans there. Then he could not believe the noise we made
and that we could be heard over the local homecoming crowd. The
next day he wore a Marshall hat he had purchased on the trip.
While we were out the next day, someone came up to him and
started talking about Marshall. He could not believe how someone
responded. Of course, my response – it happens all the
time. When you are from Marshall and wear your Marshall gear,
you almost expect that you will end up talking to someone – no
matter where you are. We have a pride that we want to talk
about.
Speaking of
pride, have you checked out the basketball teams? The men are
4-2 and haven’t lost a home game. The women are 4-4. Have you
bookmarked the Marshall radio station? The announcers are great.
I would much rather be there in person, but
http://www.marshall.edu/wmul/ has become the next best
thing. Show that pride – support your basketball teams. The new
motto, "Expect Victory,” is perfect because that is exactly what
we do expect. So let’s Jam the Cam not only this Sunday – but at
every game. Let’s create a green wall of sound that surrounds
our opponents and lifts our teams to victory.
A very happy
holiday season and peaceful and safe New Year. I look forward to
meeting many more of you in 2008.
Always wearing the green…
