Committee Meeting Minutes, October 1, 2007
Submitted by Don White

PRESENT: Alan Silva, John Flavin, Jim Gibson, Larry Berkery, Barbara Pryor and Don White

Alan called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m.

AGENDA

1.   Movie Watching - We have decided to continue our efforts to view WE ARE MARSHALL at the Sarasota Yacht Club on November 10th. The doors will open at 12:30 p.m. with lunch at 1 p.m. Following lunch, we will watch the movie. The cost will be $20 per person. Following the movie, we will watch the Marshall-East Carolina game at the Yacht Club (if available) or go to the Sports Page. Barbara will confirm all arrangements with the Yacht Club next week.

2.  Chapter Mission/Goals and Responsibilities - Allen passed out copies of the Marshall University Club Officers Handbook for everyone to review. It basically identifies the club officers and their responsibilities. It also has suggestions for club committees and best practices for club success. At this point, Allen explained that John Flavin has asked to step down as vice president. Allen asked that Don White consider replacing John along with help from John Merical. If Don and John both accept, they would function as co/vice-presidents. They will inform Allen before the next meeting.

3.  Game Watching Schedule - John will check with the Sports Page to determine what remaining games can be viewed from that location and will let us know.

4.  Treasures Report - Larry reported that an account has been opened and has a current balance of $150.

5.  Student Recruiting Report - Greg Hardesty was unable to attend the meeting, but sent an e-mail stating that he now has a large supply of recruitment materials and has asked for volunteers to help in future recruitment fairs. John, Jim and Allen volunteered. A question came up regarding whether or not there could be a NCAA recruiting violation if a member of the Big Green Club was a volunteer at one of these recruitment fairs. John is looking into this for us.

Next Meeting-TBD by Allen and he will e-mail us.

Meeting adjourned at 5:30 p.m.

Alumni have a strong attachment to their “alma mater,” and want to be involved, but many find it difficult to maintain ties with the miles between them and Marshall. A club is a great way for Marshall alumni and friends to gather together, meet other alumni, and support the university.

Alumni are the cornerstone of a university, and we need your involvement and support. In an effort to get the Sarasota club off to a great start several events are being planned throughout the summer and early fall. Please mark your calendar to attend all of these special Marshall events!
