ESPN has
announced that the Saturday, September 8, the Friends of
Coal Bowl between West Virginia and Marshall will be
televised by ESPN2 with kickoff scheduled for 11:10 a.m. at
Joan C. Edwards Stadium.
The
second Friends of Coal Bowl marks West Virginia’s first
football visit to Huntington since 1915 and home field
advantage for the 2009 season will be on the line. The two
schools are in the second year of a seven-year contract that
states the winner of two of the first three games in the
series will earn home field advantage in 2009. WVU took a
42-10 decision last year in Morgantown.
West
Virginia’s two largest state universities have met on the
gridiron only six times in history and WVU is 6-0 in those
contests. However, the Mountaineers have never played at
Marshall’s Joan C. Edwards Stadium where the Thundering Herd
is an impressive 109-11 (.908) since the facility opened in
1991.
Marshall
season tickets are currently on sale now and can be
purchased by calling 1-800-THE-HERD or going online to
www.Herdzone.com. Marshall has already surpassed its
season ticket record and tickets are going fast. Fewer than
6,000 seats remain for the season and once those tickets are
sold there will be no individual game tickets available.
