Join us for a pre-game tailgate party Saturday

The Marshall University Alumni Association and its Young Alumni Committee are sponsoring a pre-game tailgate from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 26, in the west parking lot at Joan C. Edwards Stadium.

The tailgate will precede the Thundering Herd’s annual Green-White spring football game, which starts at 3 p.m. There is no charge to attend the tailgate, and complimentary hamburgers, hot dogs and chicken from Hillbilly Hot Dogs will be served.

Water and soft drinks also will be available, and music will be provided by the band of Joe Eddins and Jason Smith.

The tailgate will take place near the corner of 20th Street and 3rd Avenue in the west lot. Weather permitting, the Marshall blimp will be flying above the tailgate.

For more information, contact Nancy Pelphrey with the alumni association at (304) 696-3134.

Green & White teams drafted

Redshirt freshman quarterback Mark Cann taken first overall

Marshall University’s football team conducted its annual Green & White game player draft Thursday and redshirt-freshman quarterback Mark Cann was the first overall pick.

The draft was conducted by dividing members of the coaching staff and seniors into two teams (the Green and the White). Those groups then proceeded to draft players position by position until every player on the roster had been taken. Marshall Head Coach Mark Snyder officiated the draft session and football trainer Josh Signs was on hand to answer questions concerning the status of players for Saturday’s 3 p.m. game.

The White team won the opening coin flip and opted to open the quarterback position by taking redshirt freshman Mark Cann. The Green then made sophomore Brian Anderson the second overall pick.

Each team must draft every available player at a position, before opening a new position for drafting on a rotating basis. The Green team selected the offensive line as the second group and took redshirt-freshman John Bruhin. In a Marshall Spring draft first, every offensive position was opened prior to the opening of any defensive position.

The coaching and team breakdown for Saturday’s game follows:

The White Team Coaching Staff: Jerry Azzinaro, Todd Goebbel, Paul Nichols, Boomer Philbrick, John Shannon and Jared Smith.

The Green Team Coaching Staff: Phil Armatas, Mike Cummings, Rick Minter, Shannon Morrison, Phil Ratliff, and Mike Ward.
