Houston Area Club offers great chance
to meet and cheer on the Herd
A big
congratulations to this relatively new club
for its innovative ideas and hard work!
Houston area
Marshall alumni
were
excited to
host a tailgate
when Marshall came to Houston on Nov. 17, 2007, to play the
University of Houston. The
tailgate was planned by the officers of the Houston Area Club:
Cathy Ambridge -
President
Jon Bryant - Vice President
Jack and Bonnie Babcock
-
Secretaries
Ed and Shirley Padilla -
Treasurers
Bob Brammer - At Large
Bob Brammer has graciously shared his
Picasa Photo Gallery with us. Have a look at
this link (external link).
"The
Green and White were proudly displayed under our tailgate tent,"
Brammer said.
"Texas barbecue with all the fixings was served. The club also sold
alumni
and Marshall t-shirts, and for every can of food people donated,
they were given one ticket that could be used for food and drink.
All canned goods were donated to a local food pantry. The tailgate
was well attended by Marshall alumni. The local count was more than
100, as well as over 50 who had traveled from Huntington. Everyone
enjoyed connecting with other alumni and friends from Huntington.
For the Houston alumni it was a little slice of home...meeting and
tailgating with everyone from Marshall."
The Houston club held a
board meeting in January and this is what is coming in 2008–2009.
A "meet and greet" will
be held at the home of Missy Sherve Boone and her husband, Scott. This
is tentatively scheduled for the end of February or the beginning of
March. Alumni Director Tish Littlehales is scheduled to attend
as well as other representatives of the university.
On May 17 when
the Marshall baseball team comes to play the Rice Owls, the club is planning
another tailgate to be held after the 1 p.m game. This fall plans are
being made for football viewing at the SRO, with another tailgate
when Marshall plays Rice University in Houston.
The club
is also planning
that every year they will hold a Bob Brammer Fundraiser
Banquet to raise money for scholarships. The club members wish to
honor Bob as an outstanding Marshall alumni. Also at the banquet
each year, the club will be giving a service award to an outstanding
local Marshall Alumni.
