Marshall Journalism
students to J-Walk
toward new technology,
digital cameras
The
fourth annual J-Walk, an event designed to raise money to help
buy new equipment and supplies for Marshall University’s W. Page
Pitt School of Journalism and Mass Communications, will take
place Friday, Oct. 26 on MU’s Huntington campus.
The
J-Walk, which is part of homecoming week activities, starts at
noon on the Memorial Student Center plaza. This year’s event
will help raise funds specifically for the purchase of new
digital cameras, which will be used in many classes and by
students working for The Parthenon.
The
J-Walk is an educational support activity of the School of
Journalism Alumni Association.
“I
remember when I was a student we didn’t have events like this,”
said Susan Nicholas, J-Walk coordinator and a Marshall graduate.
“Students, alumni and members of the local media never got
together as a group. This is a great opportunity for students to
meet people with whom they may work
some day or need help from
finding a job once they graduate.”
Students, faculty and local celebrities will begin the walk at
noon shortly after Marshall’s Fife and Drum Corps perform, and
members of the MU football team take part in a car bash. Head
football Coach Mark Snyder will begin the walk. Afterward, the
student(s) who raises the most money will be awarded a $100
Marshall Bookstore gift certificate. The walk will conclude at
about 2:30 p.m.
Students
from various journalism classes are seeking pledges from alumni
and local businesses.
