President Dr. Stephen J. Kopp's response to Manchin’s announcement
of $50 million endowment fund for
research at Marshall, WVU
“Governor
Manchin’s announcement of a critically important legislative
initiative to invest in research at Marshall and West Virginia
University is a decisive step forward that promises future benefits
for West Virginia families,"
Marshall President Dr.
Stephen J. Kopp
said. "Patterned after
Kentucky’s highly successful ‘Bucks for Brains’ program, this
matching fund program will make sensible investments in applied
research that will help diversify our economy, stimulate new
business ventures and produce new jobs.
"Growth in tax revenues will be an
important dividend of the governor’s decision. According to this
plan, every private dollar supporting research at WVU and Marshall
University will be matched by a dollar from the state, doubling the
impact of the state’s investment.
"On behalf of the students, faculty,
staff, alumni, and the Board of Governors of Marshall University, I
thank Governor Manchin for his visionary leadership and support of
our two state research institutions. This investment will create
opportunities that will influence the future of West Virginians in
every corner of the Mountain State.” |
