A message from Sharon Porter,
president of the MU Alumni Association
Dear
alumni and friends of Marshall,
It is really
something to be in Huntington and around Marshall’s campus right
now. Hollywood has come to town and everyone seems to love it. There
are star watchers every where. You just don’t know where you’ll run
into one of the stars of the Marshall movie so everyone is on FULL
ALERT. I just love it.
Downtown
Huntington has been cleaned and dressed up for filming. Lots of
local people and students are out for casting calls and everyone is
enjoying this bright side of Huntington life. I’m just thrilled to
see so much participation from the community and students and the
enthusiasm it's bringing to town.
I have faith that
McG, the director, will do a wonderful, upbeat story about the
resurrection of our football program. I think everyone is excited
about how this movie will put Marshall in the national lime light.
It is a remarkable story and one I feel privileged to have watched
from 1970 until now. I know you’re like me and have had to explain
to fans from opposing teams why Marshall fans are so dedicated to
this football program and the school. It is hard for them to
understand what we’ve seen in our town since that tragedy.
I’ll never forget
the first national title we won and looking down on that field at
some men who’d thought to make a large sign and carry around for us
all to see that said:
“Team of
1970, This One’s for You.”
All I could think
was, I hope they are looking down on us all today, and wouldn’t they
be proud.
So, as we in
Huntington watch Hollywood hit us, we are hopeful and proud of our
university and are looking to the future for more miracles.
WE ARE
MARSHALL will bring us national recognition, great students and,
hopefully, active alumni!
Sincerely,

MUAA National President
