A message from Sharon Porter,
president of the MU Alumni Association
Dear
alumni and friends,
Hope this letter
finds you doing well in this new year.
Your alumni
association is staying busy getting ready for our spring events. We
had a wonderful turnout for the Marshall/WVU basketball game. That
event was really sweetened by a WIN!! Go Herd!
Now we are
looking at Alumni Weekend and
graduation – and all the work and fun of these events.
Alumni weekend
will be very busy and exciting, with the grand classes returning to
campus and a 10-year reunion going on, too. We will
end Saturday night with our Annual Awards Banquet. This is always
such a lovely evening, wonderfully planned and executed by Nancy
Pelphrey, coordinator of alumni affairs. Thanks to Nancy, these
events always go off without a hitch!
Our young
alumni/student recruitment committee is up and running.
The committee’s mission is how to make the most contact with our new
graduates and potential alumni by aggressively pursuing ways to
connect with these students while they are seniors. One of our major
goals this year was to make our alumni association visible to our
young alumni as an active organization that will encourage them to
join. I am so proud to see how far we have come this year to
accomplish this goal.
We are very close
to announcing our groundbreaking for our new alumni center and
should be able to update you all soon on that major project.
Thank you for
your wonderful responses to nominations for our board. Elections
will be soon. We will have 10 new people on our board and 10 leaving
us, but we will press on to our goals.
Hope to see you
at our Alumni Weekend events and, as always, comments or questions
can be sent to me at the Alumni Center or my e-mail,
sharonp71@aol.com.
Sincerely,

MUAA President
