A message from Sharon Porter,
president of the MU Alumni Association
Dear
alumni and friends,
It’s hard to
believe the last six months have flown by so fast for me as your
president. I have been looking back on what we, my board and I, have
accomplished and are assessing what we need to be working on for the
coming year.
First, let me say
thank you to my wonderful board again. These people, from all over
the country, come together and work very hard to make your alumni
association better. We know how busy everyone is these days, it’s a
hectic world, but all these busy people make time for Marshall and I
thank them. And I hope when you see them, you thank them too.
We’ve been busy
getting the alumni center dream in the forefront of the Board of
Governors, the Foundation and President Kopp. There have been
presentations to answer all questions and hopefully final approval
will come soon so groundbreaking can start. We still would like to
raise our last $1.5 million so don’t forget us.
Our Alumni
Weekend Committee, led by Nancy Campbell and Cindy Warren, is on the
ball and have this upcoming event well planned and organized. Don’t
miss this fun event and banquet the weekend of April 22nd.
As we look ahead
we know we’re going to be reaching out to seniors on campus through
our Young Alumni/Student Recruitment Committee, led by Brad Bobersky
and Natalie Zigmond. We want to connect with these students and try
to keep them involved with Marshall. We are planning to go to them
with events on the Plaza and in their senior seminar classes or at
graduation ceremonies.
We also want you,
our alumni across the country, to help us represent Marshall at high
school graduation ceremonies if you know students coming to Marshall
and getting scholarships or awards. Let us know via e-mail and we’ll
work with you to make that presentation special for that student and
their family.
The new year is
just beginning and I think you can see there’s a lot to do. There’s
a lot for us the alumni board to do and a lot you, an alumni or
friend can do, to make Marshall better. You can sell Marshall to
outstanding students and their parents for their college choice, you
can make monetary contributions no matter how big or small, and you
can be present at events to support Marshall athletics and arts, or
hire fellow Marshall graduates to start or further their careers.
I look forward to
another event-filled and exciting six months as your president.
Thank you all,

MUAA President
