Marshall University graduates who are members of the Alumni
Association. In order to provide a positive recreational/fitness
experience for all, this membership group is capped and may not be
available in the future. Renewals will be prioritized according to
the first date of membership should restrictions become necessary. Spouses/significant others/dependents of alumni may purchase a
membership at a matching rate. They must satisfy two of the
following criteria - proof of joint financial responsibility, same
last name, marriage license or same residence along with verifying
documentation. An additional feature is a special gift package which
will be provided to the Herd Hundred, the first 100 members to join
the Rec Center. For information and/or to join, contact Sharon
Stanton at (304) 696-2943 or
Stanton@marshall.edu.
The facility is scheduled to open in
February 2009. Membership is restricted to students, faculty,
staff, alumni and other affiliated groups with a direct relationship
to the university. The Rec Center will be the largest employer of
students on campus and serve as an educational laboratory for
students studying in the fields of recreation, exercise science, physical
education, business and other majors. More than 200 students
have applied for positions and the Campus Recreation staff are busy
interviewing potential student employees who best fit the
philosophy of first class service in meeting the recreational and
fitness needs of Rec Center members. “The Marshall Recreation Center is the
culmination of a dream of Marshall students to complement their
educational endeavors with a first class facility for recreation and
fitness," David Stewart, director of
Campus Recreation, said. "It will be a social hub that will provide many positive
memories of college life and also educate the students on the values of
adopting a healthy lifestyle. For alumni, the opportunity will be
further enhanced to continue to be fit, practice a healthy lifestyle
and be a part of the very special Marshall experience in a local
venue that will be second to none in the state of West Virginia. It
will be a source of pride for everyone associated with Marshall.”
