Student
Government Association President Ben Sandy and Vice President
Dominique Elmore have promised to be the voice of Marshall
students during their terms of office, with their slogan, WE
ARE...YOUR VOICE.
Sandy, a senior accounting
major, hopes to simplify student government in a way that works
for today's college student.
"First of all, we want to
SIMPLIFY," said Sandy. "These
students often work part- or full-time and have less time to
become involved on campus and in student government. They don't
have time to pick up their funding packets for their respective
organizations. We hope a new web page linked from the SGA site
(ready by fall) will help students get their packets and
simplify other procedures such as student discounts, online
forms, applications, etc."
COORDINATE is the next point of the campaign. "We would
like to coordinate the more than 130 associations on campus for
increased participation and co-sponsoring of events," said
Sandy. "We're also working on a student discount from local
businesses. Students hold a lot of buying power among local
businesses."
DIVERSIFY is a point near and dear to Elmore's heart. "We
need to create more diversity in order to have representation
from all areas," said Elmore, a senior biology major. "We plan
to have a new cabinet position for multicultural affairs. I am
very excited about being the voice of the students and being
able to accomplish our platform goals."
