From The Herald-Dispatch
"We
are Marshall" has won the Tribeca/ESPN Sports Film Festival's competition for
favorite football movie, 93 percent to 7 percent.
The online voting contest pitted various football movies in a bracket to determine an ultimate
winner to be shown at the Tribeca Drive-In screen in New York City
on April 26.
“We Are Marshall” defeated “The
Longest Yard” 62 percent to 38 percent, and “Remember The Titans” 66
percent to 34 percent. Then “Marshall” beat “Friday Night Lights” 92
percent to 8 percent.
The film, which stars Matthew
McConaughey and Matthew Fox, tells the story of the rebirth of the
Marshall University football program following the 1970 plane crash
that killed most of the team, the coaches and several members of the
Tri-State community.
