February, 2000

Technology in Support of Quality Instruction was the title and focus of the February Teacher Partner meeting. Teacher Partners were joined by their District Technology Coordinators for two days of demonstrations, book review and hands on labs.

Demonstrations were presented by Teacher Partners and guests.

Nancy Henson, former Mathematics Consultant for Regional Service Center VII (KY), presented Peanut software. The software includes numerous programs including a general purpose plotting utility that draws and animates, an integer calculator, fractal expressions, discrete mathematics applications, and scatter plotting.
Nancy provided a variety of labs for the participants to work through.
Glen said "I teach science, not math. I need help!" John to the rescue!
Tony, experienced with Peanut software is explaining the fine points to Diane and Anne.
Glen Righman demonstrated Interactive Chemistry a software tutorial he has found very beneficial.
During the Open Lab time Glen showed more features of the software to interested teachers.
Jo Hendricks discussed the software evaluation form she created with John.
ARSI Curriculum Specialist Jill Hyde discussed the strengths and weaknesses of a software program with Barbour County Technology Coordinator Garry Tenney.
Tina and Jane are amazed at the graphics with a particular software program.
Linda Richards facilitated an activity using Inspiration software. She has used Inspiration in a variety of instructional and planning situations.
"Knowledge is of two kinds," said Samuel Johnson. "We know a subject ourselves or we know where we can find information upon it."

One place to find that assistance is from others. Teacher Partners are a wonderful network of assistance.
