March 1998
This month's Teacher Partner meeting was only a one-day session
due to the Appalachian Region Instructional Materials Showcase a few days
later in Charleston, West Virginia. Al and Janet discussed sponsoring Math/Science
Family nights and what activities could be done to interest parents and
the community. Our presenter, Dr. Thompson, demonstrated and explained
how to use Algeblocks to teach mathematics used more concrete ideas. Using
these blocks students can physically represent algebra and other variable-type
mathematic concepts.

Dr. Thompson explains what each of the blocks represents mathematically. |

Dr. Thompson poses an algebra equation for the TPs to solve using
the blocks. |

The TPs and other guests work to solve all of Dr. Thompson's equations
using this new method. |

A drawing was held to raffle off the set of instructor Algeblocks
(the large ones) for a lucky teacher. |
