About the School of Art & Design
“The last few decades have belonged to a certain kind of person with a certain kind of mind–computer programmers who could crank code, lawyers who could craft contracts, MBAs who could crunch numbers. But the keys to the kingdom are changing hands. The future belongs to a very different kind of person with a very different kind of mind—creators and empathizers, pattern recognizers, and meaning makers. These people—artists, inventors, designers, storytellers, caregivers, consolers, big picture thinkers–will now reap society’s richest rewards and share its greatest joys.”

A Whole New Mind: Moving from the Information Age to the Conceptual Age
The College of Arts and Media plays an integral role on campus and in the community. Together with the School of Music and Theater and the School of Journalism and Mass Communicatons, the School of Art & Design sets an exciting stage for the appreciation, study, production and dissemination of scholarly and creative works.
The interdisciplinary art and design curriculum includes both traditional and online courses that are rigorous and relevant. Class sizes in our department are kept small so each student receives thorough instruction and plenty of personal attention. The art and design faculty, celebrated for their individual research accomplishments, are also deeply committed to teaching excellence.
Equipped with profound skills, sensitivity, and sensibility, Marshall University art and design graduates are poised to become extraordinary creative thinkers and producers, as well as great 21st century leaders, entrepreneurs, educators and citizens.
