CALL FOR ENTRIES

Marshall University’s School of Art & Design is pleased to invite artists working in any media to submit entries. Accepted works will be displayed in Marshall University’s Charles W. and Norma C. Carroll Gallery in the Visual Arts Center located in downtown Huntington, WV.

JUROR

The juror for the 9th Annual National Juried Exhibition will be Chlöe Courtney. Chloë is a Dallas-based curator and art historian, and is the 2019-2020 McDermott Graduate Curatorial Intern for Contemporary Art at the Dallas Museum of Art. In 2018, she received her MA in Art History from the University of New Mexico. Her academic research focused on environmental history, performance, and community-based art in Mexico City. Past exhibition projects have received support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Lannan Foundation, and the Albuquerque Community Foundation, among others. Chloë is committed to making space for art that unravels entrenched power structures and challenges dominant ways of thinking.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES AND EXHIBITION REQUIREMENTS

Artists may enter as many pieces as they wish for jurying, two photos per piece. Each digital entry should be labeled with the full last name, first letter of first name, entry number matching the application form and the letter “A” or “B” indicating the first and second image. (e.g. LastnameF1A.jpg & LastnameF1B.jpg) High resolution jpg, 1920×1920, 300ppi. Images must be oriented properly (i.e. top of the image is the top of the artwork) and should NOT include artist’s name or other descriptive text on the image itself. Video work should be submitted in QuickTime compatible format. Images of accepted artwork will be retained by Marshall University, School of Art & Design for promotional materials related to the exhibition for archival purposes.

ENTRY PROCEDURE

Entries must be submitted online.  Complete the online application form for each work being submitted.

After you complete your application form you will receive an E-mail with a link to Dropbox. Click the link and follow prompts to "choose from computer" and upload your image and/or video files. Entry fees must be in check or money order form and mailed separately to Galleries, School of Art & Design, 927 Third Avenue, Huntington, WV 25701.

Selection of the work will be done by the juror from the files submitted. The juror reserves the right to eliminate any work that which does not meet the standards of quality for the exhibition. The award winner(s) will be selected from the actual works displayed in the gallery.

Note, works previously displayed in Marshall University’s art galleries will not be considered.

ENTRY FORM & FEE

A $10 non-refundable entry fee per work (i.e.: you submit three pieces for jurying, total would be $30) is due with completed entry materials. The number of entries is unlimited. The majority of the fees collected are allocated to support student programming in the School of Art & Design.

Submitting an entry form to this exhibition constitutes an agreement on the part of the artist with all conditions to this prospectus. No work accepted for the exhibition may be withdrawn before the close of the exhibition. The School of Art & Design reserves the right to refuse any entry, if, upon arrival, the work is found unacceptable.

INSURANCE & LIABILITY

The School of Art & Design will exercise every possible care in the safekeeping of loans in its possession, but its liability to lenders is limited. Artists whose work is accepted will be sent an Art Loan Agreement form that outlines any liability assigned to Marshall University. This form must be signed and returned to the Gallery Directory by all participating artists before the exhibition starting date.

SHIPPING & DELIVERY/PICK UP OF WORK

The artist is responsible for all costs related to shipping, and insurance of artwork while in transit to and from the gallery. Artwork should be shipped in a substantial, reusable container and include a pre-paid return shipping label. Marshall University will not be responsible for loss or damage to artworks during shipping. Please address shipped works to:
