Spring 2024 University-Wide Assessment Activities

Please pay attention to due dates for participation.

  • College and/or Departmental Activities and Surveys

    Purpose of Activity: Opportunity for individual departments/programs to complement ongoing direct assessment of student learning.
    Persons Eligible to Participate: All students, as each unit dictates.
    Activity Dates: Check with your academic department, college, or other university unit for specific details.
    Activity Prizes:

    • Direct payment of $50 (2 winners)
  • National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE)

    Purpose of Activity: Nationally benchmarked indirect assessment of student learning and engagement.  We use this assessment, in conjunction with others, to assess the impact of our current initiatives, e.g., the core curriculum, on student learning and engagement.  NSSE results help to inform future projects.
    Persons Eligible to Participate: Freshman and Seniors received email invitations from NSSE on February 15, 21, 27, March 4 and 14.  NSSE surveys also can be completed through a link in Blackboard.  Activity Dates: February 15 – May 13 (Students must complete NSSE by April 8 to be eligible for prize drawings).
    Activity Prizes:

    • AirPods Pro (2 winners)
    • Airpods (2 winners)
    • Marshall T-Shirt (10 winners)
  • Campus-Wide Surveys (Advising, Registrar’s Office, Tutoring, Bursar, Career Education, Others may be added)

    Purpose of Activity: Opportunity for campus student service offices to gather satisfaction information from students for the purpose of improving their services.
    Persons Eligible to Participate: All students will receive an email from either the Office administering the survey or from Dr. Mary Beth Reynolds inviting them to complete it.
    Activity Dates: April 1- April 8
    Activity Prizes:

    • Direct payment of $50 (2 winners)
  • Core Curriculum Survey

    Purpose of Activity: To gather information regarding student perceptions of learning in Marshall’s Core Curriculum as it aligns to Marshall’s outcomes.
    Persons Eligible to Participate: All first- and second-year undergraduate students will receive an email from Dr. Mary Beth Reynolds inviting them to complete the survey.
    Activity Dates: April 1- April 8
    Activity Prizes:

    • Direct payment of $50 (2 winners)
  • University Climate Survey

    Purpose of Activity: To gather information regarding student perception of the climate on Marshall’s campus, and use this information to inform improvements as part of Marshall’s HLC Quality Initiative.
    Persons Eligible to Participate: All students will receive an email inviting them to complete the survey.
    Activity Dates: April 1- April 8
    Activity Prizes:

    • Direct payment of $50 (2 winners)
  • Multicultural and International Course Surveys

    Purpose of Activity: To gather information regarding student perception of learning in Marshall’s Core Curriculum as it aligns to Marshall’s outcomes.
    Persons Eligible to Participate: All undergraduate students will receive an email from Dr. Mary Beth Reynolds inviting them to complete the survey.
    Activity Dates: April 1- April 8
