Our Jewels
Henry A. Lyon ,Helen C. Streeter
Cornell, 1896
Written by Helen C. Street, a University of Pennsylvania
student who was pinned by Linn M. Huntington (whom she
later married) and originally published as a poem in the
February 1903 Palm, "The Azure and the
Gold" was set to music by Harry A. Lyon,
Cornell
and the title was later changed to "Our
Jewels."
There are some who praise the diamond's blaze
And the ruby's blood red hue,
While other's praise the opal's rays
Or the sapphire's deep clear blue;
There are those who delight in the topaz bright
Or the pearl with its quiet gloss;
But brighter far is each radiant star
That we set in our Maltese Cross
Oh, Alpha Tau Omega
Our hearts are ever thine.
We set them as the jewels
In the Maltese Cross to shine;
To these we pledge allegience,
Our service true and bold
And ever we'll be loyal to the Azure and the Gold.
There are hearts that shine with dazzling light,
While some burn clear and strong,
And each and all, both great and small
To thy service shall belong
So here at thy feet in an offering meet,
That is loyal, firm and free,
And here we swear by the cross we wear
To protect and honor thee.
Oh, Alpha Tau Omega
Our hearts are ever thine.
We set them as the jewels
In the Maltese Cross to shine;
To these we pledge allegience,
Our service true and bold
And ever we'll be loyal to the Azure and the Gold.
