What browsers does SunGard SCT recommend for SCT Banner 7.0?

SunGard SCT completed testing with the following browsers: (October 4, 2005)

      • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 (with Oracle JInitiator 1.3.1.18)
      • Netscape 7.0x (with Oracle JInitiator 1.3.1.18)
      • Macintosh client - Safari 1.2 (Sun plug-in 1.4.2) for Mac OS X (1.4 JDK); must use
         Forms patch set patch2 (9.0.4.2)

Customer attempts to connect to Banner 7 and never gets a response or receives various error messages of items not available, etc.

Customer has popup blockers enabled.  These need to be disabled under the tools menu in Internet Explorer or the Banner website added as an allowed site in the popup blocker’s settings.

Customer may not be an administrator of the computer and JInitiator needs to be installed.  Customer will not be prompted to install the JInitiator if they do not have administrator access.  If Customer does not have Administrator privileges, contact helpdesk@marshall.edu.

What is the Java Plug-in?

The Java plug-in is a browser program add-on that allows your workstation to access Banner forms (screens) via your web-browser using Java applet technology.

For Windows systems, the plug-in is referred to as the Oracle JInitiator and must be downloaded and installed on your workstation.

For Macintosh systems, the plug-in is already part of the OS and is referred to as the Java 1.3.1 Plug-in. No separate installation is required; however, it may need to be enabled.

How do I install or enable the Java Plug-in on my workstation?

Click the link to
Download Oracle JInitiator 1.3.1.22.
This will initialize a program to be installed on your machine. Windows users: you need to have administrator privileges on your workstation in order to install the JInitiator.

If Banner continues to shut down once the JInitiator has been installed, follow the following PROCEDURES to update your Java and Oracle folders.

JInitiator wont download, invalid digital signature or unknown publisher

Use the following steps as a workaround to allow the download:

         Open
Internet Options applet in your Control Panel. (You can locate the Control Panel
           via your
Start Menu.)
         • Click on the tab labeled "Advanced" and scroll to the section labeled "Security".
         • Place a check in the box next to "Allow software to run or install even if the signature is invalid"
           and then click ok.

Try your download again. You should now see an option to "run" the file.
(Please note - You may need to RESTART your browser for the change to take effect.)

The JInitiator installation process won’t complete on my workstation.

The most common reason for this is lack of workstation administrator privileges. Your workstation userid needs to have administrator access to install programs like the JInitiator. If you don't know the administrator password of your workstation, contact your computer coordinator. If you continue to have problems with installing the JInitiator even with administrator workstation access, contact helpdesk@marshall.edu.

The browser fails to properly display the Oracle Forms or Customer gets an error reporting the wrong version of JInitiator is installed.

Customer needs to have Administrator privileges on computer and should remove the current version of JInitiator using Add or Remove Programs and then try the web page again to reinstall JInitiator.  The installer should automatically download and install from the server.  If Customer does not have Administrator privileges, they need to contact helpdesk@marshall.edu.

Customer is unable to connect, gets FRM-92102 error.

If you try to connect and get and error stating "FrM-92102 Network error has occurred the forms client has attempted to establish 5 times without success. Please check the network connection ", it is a Java compatibility error.  This happens when the user has the Marshall WebCT Vista site set as their Internet Explorer homepage while trying to launch Banner.  Change your homepage and you will be able to connect to Banner with no problem.

Customer is unable to see all the contents of the window with the window maximized, requiring them to scroll up, down, left, and right when using most forms.

Monitor resolution settings need to be set at minimum of 1024 x 768.

Customer closed a grey Internet Explorer window and they were immediately logged out of Banner.

The Internet Explorer window, Oracle Application Server Forms Services, is running a Java Applet that opened the Banner 7 window, Oracle Developer Forms Runtime - Web.  When the Internet Explorer window is closed, the Java Applet closes, and in the process closes the Banner 7 window.

Where did the Side Navigation Frame go?

The left pane of all Banner 6 forms contained a Navigation Frame that displayed links to blocks on the current form as well as links to related forms. In Banner 7, the Navigation Frame no longer exists.

All options that were in the Navigation Frame can now be found in the Options Menu of each form. Press keyboard shortcut "ALT + O" to open the "Options" menu. In other words, extract data by first holding down the CTRL key, then choose "Extract Data No Key" or "Extract Data With Key". Keep the CTRL key pressed until you see the extracted data.

Drop-down menus fail to function correctly.

  • Make sure popup blockers are off.

  • If Customer has two monitors, drop-down menus will only work on the primary monitor.

Banner 7 Data Extracts

Check to see if you have a pop-up blocker in Internet Explorer on your machine.  If so, you must set your browser to allow pop-ups.  You will need to do this for both Internet Explorer windows that open for Banner.  Even if you allow the pop-ups BEFORE you login to Banner, you will then have to go to the second Internet Explorer window (gray screen) that accompanies the Oracle screen and allow pop-ups there too.  It must be done in both windows.  Another work-around is to hold down the "CTRL" key and click Extract Data at the same time.  Then when the Save or View window comes up, Hold down the "CTRL" key and make your choice.

Create a Desktop Shortcut to Banner 7

Open your web browser and navigate to the following, http://www.marshall.edu/banner/banner_links.asp Click on the File menu in the toolbar.  Click send and then click on Shortcut to Desktop and the page will be added to your desktop.
