Student Impact
Effective June 1, 2004, Marshall University will move from
identifying students by their Social Security numbers to
using a unique identifier called the MUID# to help protect
individual privacy and confidentiality. This change in
business practices is the result of
Dr. Angel's recent directive.
Current Students
You will automatically be assigned a new MUID# as part of the
conversion. This means you will to need to use your new MUID#
to logon to applications like myMU. To assist with the transition to
the new MUID#, myMU will have a “look up link” so you can
look up your new MUID# until you have time to memorize it.
Incoming & Transfer Students
You will automatically be assigned a MUID# when applying
for admissions at Marshall University. Upon acceptance for
enrollment you will receive your MUID#.
Instead of using Social Security numbers you will need
your MUID# when applying for services, such as:
- MU ID Card Center – get a Marshall Onecard and request
all other services like the points system
- Registrar’s Office – register for classes
- Housing – apply for campus housing
- Parking Office – apply for a parking permit
- Health Center – receive health services
- Computing Services – MUNet and email account
activations
- Library – use library resources
- Security access for certain residence halls and
several buildings on campus
- Bursar’s Office – make tuition and fee payments
