Faculty/Staff Impact
Effective June 1, 2004, Marshall University will move from
identifying faculty and staff members with SSN based IDs to
using a uniquely generated identification number called the MUID#
to help protect individual privacy and confidentiality. This
change in business practices is the result of
Dr. Angel's recent directive.
Current Faculty and Staff Members
You will automatically be assigned a new MUID# as part of the
conversion.
Applications, like myMU, requiring your current MUID#
(typically your SSN) for logon purposes will require your new
MUID#. A MUID# “lookup link” will be provided on the
myMU login page
so you can quickly find your MUID# when needed.
All employees are assigned an Employee ID, by the state of
WV, when they are hired. This identifier is mainly used
for processing within the state-wide EPICS payroll system. For
this reason, your Employee Number will not change. The
Employee Number will continue to be used on the cover of your
payroll direct deposit statement or payroll check.
New Faculty and Staff Members
You will automatically be assigned a MUID# during the
application or hiring process.
Instead of using Social Security numbers you will need your
new MUID# when applying for services, such as:
- MU ID Card Center – get an ID card and request all other
services like the points system
- Parking Office – apply for a parking permit
- Computing Services – MUNet and email account
activations
- Library – use library resources
- Marshall Artist Series – purchase reduced tickets
- Security access for several buildings on
campus
