EMPLOYMENT VERIFICATION PROCESS

Various offices at the University have a need to verify employment.  Examples of this are to confirm employment for the issuance of a Diners' Club card or for the issuance of a Campus I.D. Card.  The Employment Verification Process has been developed to provide these offices with sufficient information to verify current employment.  Persons are enrolled in the Employment Verification Process following written request to Human Resource Services, 207 Old Main.  Individuals thus enrolled must have an MUINFO account and must have taken the Banner Basic Navigation workshop.  Persons participating in the Employment Verification Process agree to comply with the HRIS policy on Confidentiality of HRIS Information (viewable by clicking HERE).  Further, use of the Employment Verification Process is limited strictly to those situations where an individual is acting in behalf of the entire University to review records for qualification for a University service such as a Campus I.D. Card.

The Employment Verification Process begins by opening the Banner2000 desktop.  The form name NBIJLST is typed into the Direct Access window on the Banner 2000 desktop as illustrated at "A" in the graphic below.  After typing in the form name and hitting the return key, Banner HR form NBIJLST will open for properly authorized individuals.

Form NBIJLST, the Employee Job Inquiry Form, opens on screen as presented in the graphic below.  The steps to take to verify employment, keyed to the letters in the graphic, are discussed below the graphic.

A - Enter the Social Security number of the individual for whom verification of employment is needed.  Be sure that the query date appearing in the field captioned Query Date is the current date.  If not, the current date should be entered.  After doing so, hit Control - Page Down to get to the job information.

B - If the Social Security number of the individual is not known, the "flashlight" search tool, pointed out at letter "B" may be used to search Banner HR records.  From the person search tool that opens, hit the F7 key.  Then enter the last name of the individual followed by a percent sign (%) into the Last Name field on the search tool.  Then hit the F8 key.  Records matching that last name will be presented on screen.  Scroll down to and select with the cursor the desired name and double-click.  This will populate that individual's name and Social Security number in the appropriate fields on form NBIJLST.  After ensuring that the correct name appears in the hit Control - Page Down to get to the job information.

C - Employment jobs held by the individual will appear in the detail at letter "C".

D - Jobs that are still current will NOT have an end date in the field pointed out at letter "D".  If a job is listed which shows an end date, it means that particular job is ended.  If all jobs in the list have an end date entered, it can be concluded that the individual does not have current employment at the University.

E - Code "P" in the Job Type field pointed out by letter "E" denotes a Primary job.  This represents an individual's main employment at the University.  If a person does not have a Primary job listed with the End Date still blank, it means they are not a current employee.

F - The Job Employment Class (or E-Class) is presented in the field labeled Job Ecls highlighted at letter "F".  Please note that the detail provided in this section is associated with the job in the section above where the cursor is located.  If the cursor is on the current primary job, then the detail presented in the section marked by letter "F" will go with that job.  E-Classes that denote regular status employment include NC, N2, CX, CN, F0, F1, F2, F9, and FC.  Regular-status part-time employment is denoted by E-Classes FL, CE, and CP.  If any other E-Classes are represented, this does not constitute regular-status employment and should be taken into account.
