Qualified applicants must have Ph.D. in Microbiology or a related discipline; relevant postdoctoral experience preferred. Demonstrated excellence in both teaching and research, as well as outstanding communication skills are desired.
Marshall University emphasizes excellence in both teaching and research. Marshall's teaching philosophy emphasizes critical thinking and instills life-long learning. In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will establish an active, externally funded research program involving both undergraduate and graduate students. The primary teaching responsibilities will include microbiology courses for majors, microbiology service courses for non-majors, and participation in introductory biology courses. We also seek a colleague who will support our interdisciplinary programs and contribute to the university's general education curriculum with its emphasis on First Year Seminar and core courses, which are intended to enhance students;' critical thinking. The desired area of research is broadly defined as microbiology. We are especially interested in candidates whose research will complement existing research areas in the department. Startup funds will be supplied by our current NSF Rll grant.
