This year’s Nate Ruffin Scholarship winner:  Faite Grace Ahaghotu.

Faite Grace Ahaghotu is a freshman at MU majoring in Biology and minoring in Political Science.  Faite’s mother is from Kingston, Jamaica and her father is from Nigeria.  Both of her parents pursued careers in the medical field ( mother is a nurse and her father is a pharmacist at CVS Pharmacy), and she plans to eventually follow in their footsteps.  Faite was born and raised in Rockville, Maryland, but has also lived in Jamaica for a short period of time.
Her decision to come to MU was a strategy based upon the educational opportunities that Marshall presented along with enriching her social and cultural skills.  She is an active member of the Multicultural Ambassador program that is designed to be a peer educator group for students from all walks of life.  The organization has been an enlightening experience that has allowed her to embrace not only her culture heritage, but the numerous peers she has met during her short tenure here at Marshall.
She loves travel, socializing, and working out.  She is a very busy person, but with the numerous activities she is involved with she makes education her number one priority.  She was chosen as this year’s Nate Ruffin Scholarship awardee because of her commitment to service while maintaining a 4.0 grade point average.
After graduating she plans to attend Pharmacy school and obtain a Master’s in Biology.  Her dream is to join the world organization “Doctors Without Borders” and provide aid to children and adults in Africa.
Her life quote comes from Erma Bombeck; “When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say,  I used everything you gave me."
