The CAASP is an environment where students can seek assistance for a number of issues relative to his/her academic pursuits.
In addition to student request for assistance, graduate students and administrative staff proactively engage students in discussions
concerning various dimensions leading to academic success. At the CAASP, students receive confidential guidance concerning a number
of areas to include admission and enrollment, course selection, add/drop, effective study habits and time management, proper utilization
of tutoring and other campus resources, and social/personal factors that are obstacles to academic success and properly navigating
campus facilities and resources. The CAASP often serves as a liaison and referral agent to other campus or community programs to
assure that student's needs are met a best as possible.
The CAASP Mentoring Program has been in existence since 1985. This is a multifaceted intitiative designed to partner student Mentees
with Mentors who are generally university faculty or staff, community professionals, or upper classmen. The program is designed to assist
undergraduate students with transitioning into college life , receiving personal guidance, motivating for personal and academic success
and positive role modeling by approved Mentors. Mentees also have the opportunity to engage in social and leisure activities with his/her
Mentor within in the boundaries established by this program. The invaluable resource is often a critical element for student success and
staying on the right track.
Each fall (see calendar) the CAASP contacts prospective students and accepts applications for mentor and mentees. The year formally begins
with a Mentor-Mentee Pairing Reception, holds a Holiday Reception each December, and ends the academic year with exciting reception and
show of appreciation.
Academic Assistance
Graduate assistants provide academic assistance to second semester freshmen and first term sophomore students who have a major quality
point deficiency. The purpose is to direct and encourage them to utilize available support services. As academic support assistants, they
provide guidance, monitoring, and modeling to create a desire for these students to recommit to their academic efforts.
The CAASP is here for you. We want to assist you in your academic, social, and personal endeavors while you are here at Marshall.
