Marshall University Honors College

Application Information

WHO SHOULD:

Any student who loves learning, reading, writing, or experiments should consider honors. To be admitted, students must have a GPA of 3.30 and an ACT test score of 26 or its SAT equivalent.
HOW TO:

To Apply to the Honors College, complete the application form available on this web-site in electronic form, and in paper form through the Honors College office.
WHEN TO:

Please note that being admitted to Honors 101 does not mean that you are admitted to the Honors program; further, receiving a scholarship does not mean that you have been admitted to Honors. You must apply to enjoy the seminars, early registration privilege, and other benefits of the Honors College.

What Honors is

When you apply to, are accepted by, and complete the honors program, you graduate "in" honors and are identified as an honors graduate on transcripts. This demonstrates that you are bright, engaged, dedicated, and can carry out a commitment to a task that few others achieve--traits that graduate schools and employers value.

Students who graduate "in" honors have completed a whole course of study dedicated to bright students. This designation differs from graduating "with" honors, a designation at Commencement that marks a high GPA bit not an honors curriculum.

Admissions Requirements

Entering freshmen who have a 3.30 GPA and a 26 ACT (1170 SAT) are eligible for the program. Applications can be downloaded here or picked up at Old Main 230. Transfer students or students returning Marshall may apply if they have earned a 3.30 GPA but they should be sure that it is still possible mathematically for them to acquire the 24 units that they need to graduated in honors.
