Computer Based Testing Center

The Marshall University Computer Based Testing Center administers many different tests for Marshall students as well as the general public. The following is a listing of a few of the more popular tests offered by the CBTC:

Note: These are not the only tests offered by the CBTC. As a branch of the Education Testing Service (ETS) there are many tests offered. Please contact the CBTC for information about available exams in addition to those previously mentioned.

GENERAL TEST DESCRIPTIONS
GRE -- (Graduate Records Examination) The GRE Program offers a computer-based test that is designed to assess knowledge and skills relevant to graduate study. The test consists of a verbal, quantitative , and analytical measure. For more information, contact the CBTC or visit the GRE website.

NBPTS -- (National Board for Professional Teaching Standards) The National Board is an effort to develop professional standards for early childhood, elementary and secondary school teaching. This process is unlike the current mandatory systems of state licensing which set entry level requirements for beginning teachers. National Board Certification is a voluntary process developed to recognize experienced teachers for the quality of their practice. PRAXIS Series --  The PRAXIS I examination is required for admission to many College of Education and Human Services (COEHS) programs. It is also know as the Professional Assessments for Beginning Teachers exam and commonly referred to as the PPST (its non-computer based equivalency). This is a teacher testing program developed and administered by ETS. The test includes former NTE Program tests as well as a thorough review of sate licensing requirements. TOEFL -- (Test of English as a Foreign Language) The TOEFL test is designed to evaluate the English proficiency of people whose native language is not English. The scores are required for purposes of admission by more than 2,400 colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. The TOEFL test consists of four sections: Listening, Structure, Reading, and Writing. For more information, contact the CBTC or visit the TOEFLS website.
