Regulation of muscle and adipose miRNA expression profiles in cancer cachexia Muscle atrophy, diminished muscle contractile performance and loss in muscle protein associated with cancer cachexia is a tremendous burden on health care costs, is a primary predictor of patient survival and has enormous negative impact on a patients' quality of life. Cancer cachexia is a profound metabolic process characterized by breakdown of skeletal muscle and harmful, chaotic abnormalities in fat and carbohydrate metabolism, often despite adequate nutritional intake.
