Effect of Vitamin D replacement on endothelial function. Vitamin D deficiency is a common problem worldwide, and has been thought to be a risk factor for hypertension, cardiovascular disease, cancer, autoimmune diseases, and it may also play a role in the pathogenesis of type-2 diabetes. Recent studies showed that Vitamin D deficiency is associated with endothelial dysfunction, which was suggested likely to be due to oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation in the absence of adequate Vitamin D levels. In this study we are examining whether Vitamin D supplementation can be used to improve endothelial function and diminished risk of cardiovascular disease.
