Field Trip

The field trip will be to the Virginia Smart Road. The Smart Road is a unique, state-of-the-art, full-scale, closed test-bed research facility owned and maintained by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and managed by Virginia Tech’s Transportation Institute (VTTI). Transportation scientists and product developers have spent more than 20,000 hours conducting research on this high-tech highway since its opening in March 2000.

Field trip is Tuesday, August 15th, 2017 departing The Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center at approximately 8am **Pre-Registration Required**

Bus Travel (the Smart Road is about 10 minutes travel time, so this accounts for bus loading.)

Bus Tour of Smart Road

Smart Road is a loop unconnected to the highway system, so no traffic control/vests/hardhats etc. are necessary.
