Marshall University Geographic Information System (MUGIS)

Organization:
Marshall University

PI: James Wolfe

Description:

MUGIS is a project within Marshall University managed by the Center for Environmental, Geotechnical and Applied Sciences (CEGAS) to integrate Marshall’s spatial data.  MUGIS will address several needs of Marshall University’s principal stakeholders.  Stakeholders include the university administrative, faculty, and students.

An investment in new software and maintenance has the potential to produce significant productivity and efficiency gains.  Examples include:

  • Improve communications
  • Increase workforce efficiency
  • Improve maintenance quality and labor tracking
  • Organized facilities-management data
  • Better tracking of asset and equipment histories
  • Lowering a facility’s total cost of ownership
  • Better use of facility space
  • Improve change management

Marshall University has an opportunity to become a model and set the standard for the state, as no other state university has undertaken a project of this scope.
