Scholarships and Fellowships

The following scholarships and fellowships are awarded to students in the Department of Chemistry

The Gary Anderson Scholarship

Department faculty have named this scholarship in honor of former colleague, Dr. Gary Anderson. It is awarded annually to a chemistry major and currently has a nominal value of $1,000.

Jordan Martinez and Amanda Smythers are the 2016 Anderson Scholars.

Alumni Sponsored School-year Undergraduate Research Experience (ASSURE)

This scholarship provides $1,000 annually to a student engaged in undergraduate research with a chemistry department faculty member.

    

William Papageroge is the 2016 participant in this program.

Alumni Summer Undergraduate Research Fellow

This fellowship provides a $4,000 stipend for an undergraduate student to spend full time working on a research project for the summer. It is funded by donations from our alumni.

The Paul and Catherine Babb Scholarship

This scholarship was endowed by Dr. Daniel Babb in memory of his parents. It is awarded annually to a chemistry major and provides $1,500 towards that student's academic expenses.

Rebecca "Erin" Thacker is the 2016 Paul and Catherine Babb Scholar.

The Brammer Brothers Scholarship

This scholarship was endowed by three brothers who were Marshall chemistry graduates in the 1950's. It is awarded annually to a chemistry major who is a West Virginia resident. This scholarship currently has a value of at least $1,000.

Brandon Murdock is the 2016 Brammer Brothers Scholar.

Roger Combs Summer Undergraduate Research Fellow Summer Undergraduate Research Fellow

This fellowship provides a $4,000 stipend for an undergraduate student to spend full time working on a research project for the summer. It is funded by donations from our alumni.

Amanda Smythers is the Roger Combs Summer Undergraduate Research Fellow for 2016.

Herbert Louis Eiselstein Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is endowed in the memory of Herbert Louis Eiselstein, a former Vice President of Technology, Research and Development at INCO alloys, by his family. It is awarded annually to a student who will also do research in the Department as part of the award. This scholarship currently has a value of at least $1,000.

Jordan Martinez and Amanda Smythers are the 2016 Eiselstein Scholars.

The Gamma Eta of Alpha Chi Sigma Scholarship

This endowed scholarship is administered by the Alpha Chi Sigma Educational Foundation and is awarded annually to a member of Alpha Chi Sigma based on a combination of scholarly excellence and active participation in the Gamma Eta chapter of Alpha Chi Sigma. Members of the Fraternity may be majors in any of the chemical sciences. This scholarship currently has a value of $2,000.

Nick Lawson is the 2016 Gamma Eta Scholar.

The Chang and Chung Kong Scholarship

Endowed by the children of former chemistry professor Chang L. Kong and his wife, the Kong scholarships provide funding for tuition, fees, and books to a student for two years. One of these scholarships is awarded each spring to a sophomore chemistry major.

Paris "Ethan" Adkins is the 2016 Chang and Chung Kong Scholar.

Daniel P. Babb Trust Scholars

These scholarships are made possible by the Dr. Daniel Babb trust fund. His legacy extends beyond his 40 plus years of service as a faculty member of the Chemistry department which included serving as chair.

Grayce Behnke, Zachary Boggs, Jusin Conte, Nick Kegley, Brandon Murdock, William Papageorge, Jacob "Taylor" Spry, Rebecca "Erin" Thacker, and Romeo Vences-Leonard are the Daniel P. Babb Trust Scholars for 2016 that are seniors.

 

Outstanding Underclassmen Chemistry Student Scholars:

Throughout his career, Dr. Babb took great pride in teaching introductory chemistry classes at Marshall. To honor this legacy, the Trust and Department are pleased to be able to recognize exemplary, high achieving underclassmen chemistry students: Paris "Ethan" Adkins, Jonathan Church, Taylor Craigo, Katherine Duty, Martha Ellis, Michaela Howell, Chris Kelly, Nicole Lane, Annabella Pauley, Samuel "Gage" Ross, Zachary Runyon, Lena Salameh, Deben Shoup, Taylor Skaggs, Hannah Smith and Daniel Stanley.
