Scholarships and Fellowships

The following scholarships and fellowships are awarded to students in the Department of Chemistry

The Gary Anderson Scholarship

Department faculty have named this scholarship in honor of former colleague, Dr. Gary Anderson. It is awarded annually to a chemistry major and currently has a value of $500.

Marjorie McCoy is the 2014 Anderson Scholar.

Alumni Sponsored School-year Undergraduate Research Experience (ASSURE)

This scholarship provides $1,000 annually to a student engaged in undergraduate research with a chemistry department faculty member.

Ben Coleman is the 2014 participant in this program.

Alumni Summer Undergraduate Research Fellow

This fellowship provides a $4,000 stipend for an undergraduate student to spend full time working on a research project for the summer. It is funded by donations from our alumni.

Destiny Carte is the Alumni Undergraduate Research Fellow for 2014.

The Paul and Catherine Babb Scholarship

This scholarship was endowed by Dr. Daniel Babb in memory of his parents. It is awarded annually to a chemistry major and provides $1,500 towards that student's academic expenses.

Emily Wright is the 2014 Babb Scholar.

The Brammer Brothers Scholarship

This scholarship was endowed by three brothers who were Marshall chemistry graduates in the 1950's. It is awarded annually to a chemistry major who is a West Virginia resident. This scholarship currently has a value of $500.

Stephanie Broughman is the 2014 Brammer Brothers Scholar.

Roger Combs Summer Undergraduate Research Fellow

This fellowship provides a $4,000 stipend for an undergraduate student to spend full time working on a research project for the summer. It is funded by donations from our alumni.

Emily Wright is the Roger Combs Summer Undergraduate Research Fellow for 2014.

Herbert Louis Eiselstein Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is endowed in the memory of Herbert Louis Eiselstein, a former Vice President of Technology, Research and Development at INCO alloys, by his family. It is awarded annually to a student who will also do research in the Department as part of the award. This scholarship currently has a value of $1,000.

Brian Warner is the 2014 Eiselstein Scholar.

The Gamma Eta of Alpha Chi Sigma Scholarship

This endowed scholarship is administered by the Alpha Chi Sigma Educational Foundation and is awarded annually to a member of Alpha Chi Sigma based on a combination of scholarly excellence and active participation in the Gamma Eta chapter of Alpha Chi Sigma. Members of the Fraternity may be majors in any of the chemical sciences. This scholarship currently has a value of $2,000.

Miles X. Gray is the 2014 Gamma Eta Scholar.

Sarah Barber was selected as the 2014 recipient.

Outstanding Senior Chemist (Sponsored by the American Institute of Chemists and Marshall University Department of Chemistry)

Christian Warner was selected as the 2014 recipient.

Outstanding Graduating Chemist (Sponsored by the Central Ohio Valley Section of the American Chemical Society)

Justin Erwin was selected as the 2014 recipient.

Outstanding Biohemist (Sponsored by Marshall University Department of Chemistry)

The Department of Chemistry is very happy to announce the creation of a new award for outstanding performance by a biochemistry student. We look forward to using this award to recognize outstanding efforts in this field.
