Marshall Student Receives Scholarship to Study Abroad

Matthew Walker who is a history and Japanese major student at Marshall University received a Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship. This scholarship will benefit him visit and study at Kansai Gaidai University in Osaka, Japan during the spring 2013 academic term through Marshall University’s bilateral exchange program.
The scholarship program encourages students to choose non-traditional study abroad destinations to help them to have better understanding of other people from different countries about their cultures and languages. These experiences help students and scholars to be more internationally minded and more prepared for their future careers.  
The program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Culture Affairs, and the Institute of International Education (IIE) serves as the administrator of the program.
