Course Description:
Solid and Hazardous Waste Management will cover the technical, financial,
regulatory, and social issues involved with the management of solid and
hazardous waste. Through the course lecture I will provide a broad overview of
the topic while out-of-class assignments will provide you an opportunity to
investigate specific topics more thoroughly. A project will permit you an
opportunity to thoroughly research a topic of interest to you.
Grade Policy:
Your class grade will be based on your performance on two (2) exams, a project
paper, a final comprehensive exam, and out-of-class assignments. The grade will
be calculated based on the following percentages:
Exams – 30 % (15%for each exam)
Project – 20 %
Final Exam – 20 %
Out-of-class assignments – 30%
Class assignments and participation:
You are expected to read the assigned material and complete the out-of-class
assignments prior to the assigned date. Many of the out-of-class assignments
will be the basis for student-lead discussions.
Homework:
Homework is to be completed in a professional manner and submitted within the assigned deadline. Certain material assigned as required reading may not be covered within the planned lecture. Please feel free to initiate class discussion on material not explicitly discussed in the lecture. Details on the project will be developed based on discussions with the class. Exams will be given in-class on the scheduled dates
Attendance Policy:
Attendance is required and strongly recommended, as you are responsible for all
material discussed in class. Exams missed due to a scheduled absence will be
rescheduled. Exams missed due to an unscheduled absence will be rescheduled at
the option of the instructor.
Academic Dishonesty:
Issues of academic dishonesty will be handled as specified in the Graduate
Catalog.
