Welcome!

Dr. Betsy Ennis Dulin

As the dean of Marshall’s newest and rapidly growing college, it is my distinct pleasure to welcome you to the College of Information Technology and Engineering (CITE).

From its inception at the turn of the new millennium, CITE has been dedicated to the delivery of undergraduate and graduate programs in high-technology fields that optimize opportunities for our students and that support the growth and reputation of our university, state, and region. As we develop new and existing programs in engineering, computer science, and related technology fields, we embrace and honor Marshall’s long-standing traditions in education while moving forward at a pace that prepares our graduates for the challenges and exciting opportunities that lie ahead in a continually changing global technology environment.

Whether you’re exploring our web-site or walking around campus, the signs of CITE’s growth are obvious. As enrollment and programs continue to grow, so does our faculty and our need for additional facilities and other infrastructure. We are privileged to have the support of individuals, businesses, and institutional leadership who believe that strong educational programs in engineering and technology fields are the cornerstone of a healthy economic environment. Consequently, members of our Art and Joan Weisberg Division of Engineering and Computer Science soon will be occupying a new, state-of-the-art engineering laboratory building, which will house new offices, classroom facilities, and labs important for program accreditation and our future growth.

In addition to the new facilities, CITE continues to reach a series of other academic milestones. In 2008, we were proud to witness the graduation of the first class of students in the new Bachelor of Science in Computer Science program. The first class of students in the new Bachelor of Science in Engineering program will soon follow in 2009, and we have exciting plans for growth in our Safety Technology undergraduate program. CITE’s graduate programs in Technology Management, Engineering, Environmental Science, Information Systems, and Safety continue to serve a vital role for working professionals in the region, and our research activities are expanding, especially in the fields of environmental engineering, transportation engineering, and information technology.

Even with all of these new developments and activities, our most important asset in CITE is and will always be our outstanding faculty. We have been very fortunate in the ability to recruit and retain professionals who not only are respected and successful in their fields of study, but who also are dedicated to the pursuit and dissemination of knowledge in all its forms. CITE’s faculty members understand both our students and the rapidly changing environment in which they will one day work, and do all they can every day to make sure students are prepared to excel in their chosen careers. As is the tradition at Marshall University, CITE students have the benefit of daily interaction with their professors, who pride themselves on being available for questions, discussion, and continued mentorship of students. That’s something you won’t find at all institutions, but we believe it is an important part of our collective mission here.

As you can see, there are many new things happening around here, so check back with us often. We encourage you to contact us with your questions or comments, either through the dean’s office or though individual faculty members, and hope that you choose to join us as we move forward.

Sincerely,

Betsy Ennis Dulin

Dean and Professor of Engineering
