ENGR 620 - COMPUTER APPLICATIONS

Course Description: Use of Excel and Matlab to solve problems of interest to engineers. Covers the use of tables, databases, curve fitting, summation of series, systems of equations, solving nonlinear equations, differential equations, and other numerical methods as appropriate for the students. Theory of the methods will be covered as needed.

Numerical Differentiation

Numerical Integration

Numerical Optimization

Solution of Differential Equations

Homework: Homework problems will be chosen from chemical, environmental, electrical, or mechanical engineering subjects.

Notes and Examples: All notes and course materials will be posted on Webct.

Schedule: There will few class meetings; most interaction will, I hope, occur over the web. We will set up Chatrooms and QandA sessions.

Software: I hope to have the software downloadable from the web for the duration of the course.
