Marshall to Co-Sponsor a Forum on Environmental Management Systems
November 05, 2001
On December 4, 2001 an all-day forum called "Environmental Management Systems: The Next Generation of Environmental Protection" will be held in the Appalachian Room on the second floor of the Geary Student Union at the University of Charleston. The forum is intended for West Virginia businesses, government agencies and educational institutions and is being sponsored by the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, Marshall University and the National Institute for Chemical Studies.
Purpose
This forum is designed to increase the understanding of Environmental Management
Systems (EMS) and how they may be used to improve the environmental performance
of any organization.
What is An EMS
An environmental management system is a formal set of procedures and policies
that define how an organization will manage its potential impacts on the welfare
of its workers and nearby citizens. By adopting an EMS, an organization has the
potential to discover many opportunities to reduce wasteful uses of resources,
thus saving money and otherwise enhancing its economic performance while
reducing the impact on the environment.
Topics
The forum will present the latest information on EMS from practitioners around
the country. Topics to be presented include:
- EMS concepts and principles
- Experiences of industry and government agencies in implementing EMS
- How the WVDEP views EMS
- Practical guidance on how to develop an EMS and where to get help.
Cost
The cost for attending the forum is $30.00 which includes refreshments, lunch
and all meeting materials.

Complete the registration form and mail it to the
