Engineering Reunion
April 25, 2002
The division of Engineering held a reunion and open house during Alumni Weekend, April 19-21, for past graduates of the Marshall University Engineering program that ran from 1936 until 1972. Many Marshall alumni gathered for the event from several states including ones as distant as Arizona. Among the attendees was the family of the late Carwood Lipton, a 1948 graduate of the Marshall Engineering program and one of the key soldiers featured in the HBO mini-series Band of Brothers and in the book of the same name by Stephen Ambrose. His wife can be seen with CITE Dean Dr. Jim Hooper and Associate Dean Betsy Dulin in the bottom right-hand photo below.

The alumni were given a presentation on the history of the undergraduate Engineering program, which is being compiled by '49 graduate John McHaffie, and were updated on the current efforts to bring a four-year degree back to Marshall University by provost Sarah Denman. The current two-year program was reviewed and other activities like this past summer's Exploring Engineering Academy of Excellence were described. After the presentations, the alumni members introduced themselves to each other by describing their achievements and how Marshall helped to prepare them for the challenges they faced in their various Engineering fields.
