Interim Chairs Appointed

The following faculty members have been appointed as CITE interim chairs:

  • Dr. William Pierson, Interim Chair, Engineering Division

    Dr. Pierson has served as Coordinator of the Marshall University Pre-engineering program since January, 2000. He is a Registered Professional Engineer and holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from University of Missouri – Rolla. He has been a member of the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering Exam Committee for the past 12 years, and he has served as the EE subcommittee chair and currently serves as vice-chair of the FE Exam Committee.

    Dr. Pierson holds a BSEE from West Virginia Institute of Technology and an MSEE degree from WVU. He served on the faculty of WVIT in the departments of Electrical Engineering Technology, Computer Science, and Electrical Engineering, where he taught a wide range of courses, including embedded systems, data communications, industrial instrumentation, and digital signal processing. In addition to 30 years of teaching experience, Dr, Pierson has served as a consultant to a number of local and regional businesses.

    A native of Charleston, WV, Dr. Pierson and his wife Barbara currently live in Milton, WV. They have three children and three grandchildren.

     

  • Dr. Herb Tesser, Interim Chair, Information Technology/Technology Management Division

  • Dr. Tesser holds the Arthur and Joan Weisberg Chair in Software Engineering and is a member of the CITE faculty. He has been at Marshall University since 1993 and has served as Coordinator for the Integrated Science and Technology program, Chairman of Computer Science, a member of Faculty Senate (1999-2001), Dean Search Committee for both the College of Science and CITE, and the Strategic Directions Committee of Marshall's Information Technology Committee.

    Dr. Tesser holds a B.S. (Physics) from Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn and an M.S. (Physics) and Ph.D. (Physics) from Stevens Institute of Technology. He has also been a Fellow at the Ettore Majoranna Institute for Advanced Studies.

    His current and recent projects include:

    Face Recognition and Face Detection

    Technology and Innovation: A new course that will be introduced in the College of Science and CITE. The course is funded by the National Center for Invention and Innovation.

    AEGIS: Analysis and Exploitation of Geographic Information Systems (Funded by the Rahall Transportation Institute and WV DoT. A goal of AEGIS is to develop strategies for the implementation of GIS technology into transportation systems.

    AREUS: An Automated Road Extraction Update System (Funded by the Rahall Transportation Institute). The goal of AREUS is to automatically extract data from remotely sensed images and address the problem of inconsistencies among data sets.

    Dr. Tesser has recently published research papers in the fields of Software Engineering, Image Processing, and Computer Science education.

    He is married to Nannette and they have two daughters and 7 grandchildren. They rarely get to sail anymore.
