CITE Faculty Member Participates in Habitat for Humanity Project
Dr. Clair Roudebush and ten other members of the Marshall community participated in building a house with Habitat for Humanity over Spring Break, March 16 through 21. The group traveled twelve hours to Phenix City, Alabama to meet up with student groups from four other universities working on the project. A total of sixty students spent the week building two three-bedroom houses on the project.
Dr. Roudebush stated that “Most of the students had no prior experience working on a construction project, and the overwhelming majority of the students were female”. In teams of thirty, the group completed both houses in three and a half days; rain on Monday set the building back at first, but the number of volunteers overcame the shortened schedule.
After completing their service project, the group from Marshall came home via Atlanta, Georgia, where the spent time at The Underground and visited the Martin Luther King Jr. Center.
Dr. Roudebush reflected, "We're trying to give students an alternative Spring Break experience. Instead of a self-involved trip to the beach, we offer students an opportunity to get involved in community service and help others."
