Gale Given to be Featured Speaker at Engineering Academy

Gale Given, President of Verizon West Virginia, Inc., will deliver the keynote address at the 2003 Engineering Academy awards luncheon, scheduled for 11:30 am on Friday, June 27, in the Memorial Student Center.

Ms. Given earned a B.S. in Mathematics and a Masters in Business Administration degree from Marshall University. She began her career in 1979 at C&P Telephone of West Virginia in the company’s engineering organization. Since that time, and prior to her current position, she has worked in the telecommunications industry on a variety of engineering, organizational, and regulatory matters.

The keynote address will highlight the conclusion of the third annual “Exploring Engineering: Academy of Excellence”, co-sponsored by CITE, the Huntington Post of the Society of American Military Engineers, Learning for Life, and the Nick J. Rahall II Appalachian Transportation Institute. From June 22 through 27, we will host thirty high school students from across the state and region on the Huntington campus, where they will learn more about engineering careers through a variety of team-based exercises, field trips, and interactions with professional engineers. The academy is free to participating students, and is funded through generous contributions from the regional industrial and engineering communities, as well as WV EPSCoR and the Rahall Transportation Institute.

The awards luncheon, which honors all student participants and sponsors of the academy, is open to alumni and students at a cost of $12.00. If you are interested in attending the luncheon, or would like more information on the academy, please call Barbara Lanham at (304) 746-2042, or visit the academy website: http://www.marshall.edu/eeae.
